Drill: Windscreen Wipers

Coaching Objective

Skill Level: Beginner, Skill Development: Ball Handling and Control. This is an excellent drill to use as a warm up and help you develop your ball handling skills by completing single hand V Dribble. Maintain control and when you feel like you are mastering this drill on both your left and right hands, then speed it up.

Drill Instruction

  1. Start with your feet slightly wider than shoulder length and keeping low.
  2. Keep your head up (don’t watch the ball), have your left arm up in a guard position and the ball held in your right hand.
  3. Dribble the ball across your body with your right hand.
  4. When the ball bounces up, cross the ball across the body with the same hand. This is known as a V Dribble.
  5. Do this for 45 seconds and repeat with your left hand and your right arm up in a guard position.

Coaching Instruction

  1. Keep low and keep control of the ball.
  2. Keep your head up looking in front (don’t ball watch).
  3. CHALLENGE YOURSELF: try and dribble as fast as you can while keeping control of the ball.
  4. Always practice on your weak side.
  5. When you have mastered this drill then try the Double Windscreen Wipers drill.
  6. Feel like you have the ball on a string and Be Awesome!
