Coaching Objective
Skill Level: Beginner, Skill Development: Ball Handling and Control. This is an excellent drill to use as a warm up and help you develop your ball handling skills by completing single hand V Dribble. Maintain control and when you feel like you are mastering this drill on both your left and right hands, then speed it up.
Drill Instruction
- Start with your feet slightly wider than shoulder length and keeping low.
- Keep your head up (don’t watch the ball), have your left arm up in a guard position and the ball held in your right hand.
- Dribble the ball across your body with your right hand.
- When the ball bounces up, cross the ball across the body with the same hand. This is known as a V Dribble.
- Do this for 45 seconds and repeat with your left hand and your right arm up in a guard position.
Coaching Instruction
- Keep low and keep control of the ball.
- Keep your head up looking in front (don’t ball watch).
- CHALLENGE YOURSELF: try and dribble as fast as you can while keeping control of the ball.
- Always practice on your weak side.
- When you have mastered this drill then try the Double Windscreen Wipers drill.
- Feel like you have the ball on a string and Be Awesome!
