Coaching Objective

Skill Level: Beginner, Skill Development: Ball Handling and Control. This is an excellent drill to use as a warm up and help you develop your ball handling skills. Maintain control and when you feel you are mastering this drill then speed it up.

Drill Instructions

  1. Stand with your left foot forward with toes pointing forward, right foot behind you balanced on your toes and left arm up in a guard position.
  2. Dribble the ball with your right hand on the side of your body in a forward and backwards motion.
  3. Keep control of the ball dribbling forwards and backwards.
  4. Do this for 45 seconds and then repeat with your left hand, with your right foot forward and left foot behind.

Coaching Messages

  1. Keep control of the ball, stay balanced.
  2. Keep your head still and look up in front of you.
  3. CHALLENGE YOURSELF: Complete as many dribbles as you can in a set time-frame.
  4. CHALLENGE YOURSELF: try and dribble as fast as you can while keeping control of the ball.
  5. CHALLENGE YOURSELF: stand with feet shoulder length apart and use 2 balls at the same time.
  6. Feel like you have the ball on a string and Be Awesome!
