Drill: Team Rebound off the Board

Coaching Objective

Skill Level: Intermediate, Skill Development: Rebounding & Strength. This is fun drill to do with friends. This drill will help you improve your rebounding, increase your strength and fitness. You can do this drill with 2 or more people. If you don’t have access to a backboard, you can use a wall instead.

Drill Instruction

  1. Begin the drill by having all participants standing in a line on the left or right side of the basket with the first person in line approximately 2 big steps away from the backboard.
  2. The first person in line throws the ball up to the backboard and runs to the end of the line
  3. The second person rebounds the ball by jumping up as high as possible to catch the ball. The ball should be rebounded at its highest point.
  4. The second person then throws the ball back up at the backboard and runs to the end of the line.
  5. The next person in line rebounds the ball and throws the ball up to the backboard and runs to the end of the line.
  6. Keep repeating the above steps.

Coaching Messages

  1. CHALLENGE YOURSELF: Set yourself a time and see if you can avoid the ball touching the ground.
  2. Concentrate on your timing and trying to catch the ball at its height point.
  3. Jump as high as you can.
  4. When catching the rebound, grip the ball tightly.
  5. Jump High and Be Awesome!
