Drill: Double Cross Through and Double Cross Over

Coaching Objective

Skill Level: Intermediate, Skill Development: Handles & Footwork. Develop your ball control through repetition. This handle drill will also help you develop your footwork using the Jump Cross Step and help you improve your fitness. Learn the handling sequence and then try and complete it faster.

Drill Instruction

Start the drill with your left hand

  1. Start this drill by holding the ball with your left hand and your feet just outside shoulder length apart.
  2. Cross the ball through your legs and perform a jump cross step by moving your right foot forward and left foot back.
  3. Control the ball with your right hand behind your body.
  4. In the same motion; Bring the ball around to the front of you, cross the ball through your legs and perform a jump cross step by moving your left foot forward and right foot back.
  5. Control the ball with your left hand behind your body.
  6. In the same motion; Bring the ball around to the front of you and bring your feet in line together and just outside shoulder length apart.
  7. Crossover the ball in front of you twice e.g. from left to right and right to left.
  8. Keep repeating the above steps.

Start the drill with your right hand

  1. Start this drill by holding the ball with your right hand and your feet just outside shoulder length apart.
  2. Cross the ball through your legs and perform a jump cross step by moving your left foot forward and right foot back.
  3. Control the ball with your left hand behind your body.
  4. In the same motion; Bring the ball around to the front of you, cross the ball through your legs and perform a jump cross step by moving your right foot forward and left foot back.
  5. Control the ball with your right hand behind your body.
  6. In the same motion; Bring the ball around to the front of you and bring your feet in line together and just outside shoulder length apart.
  7. Crossover the ball in front of you twice e.g. from right to left and left to right.
  8. Keep repeating the above steps.

Coaching Messages

  1. Try and look up and don’t watch the ball.
  2. Practice the drill using your left and right sides. Complete the drill instructions above but start with the ball in your right hand.
  3. Challenge Yourself: complete the drill quickly without losing control.
