Drill: Crossover with Floor Touch Handle

Coaching Objective

Skill Level: Intermediate, Skill Development: Handles. This drill introduces the challenge of being able to teach yourself to do two things at the same time. In this handle you will touch the floor with one hand while at the same time controlling the ball with the other hand. Handles are a form of exercise which stimulates your body to release ‘feel good’ hormones, or endorphins. These natural mood lifters will keep stress at bay and improve your mindfulness.

Drill Instruction

  • Start low with your feet wider than shoulder length apart.
  • Cross the ball over in front of you and touch the floor after each crossover.
  • When crossing from your left to right hand, on release of the ball with your left hand, touch the floor with your left hand and control the ball with your right hand.
  • When crossing from your right to left hand, on release of the ball with your right hand, touch the floor with your right hand and control the ball with your left hand

Coaching Messages

  • Stay and nice and low and keep your eyes up.
  • Start the drill slowly and then go quickly once you master it.
  • CHALLENGE YOURSELF: Beat your score. See how many floor touches you can do in 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds.
